US president thanks Iran for early notice on missile strikes Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Egypt condemn Iranian attack Iran fired missile barrages at Israel after Tehran hit by Israeli attacks.
WASHINGTON/TEHRAN/DOHA – President Donald Trump on Monday thanked Iran for “early notice” after the country attacked a US air base in Qatar, adding that he would like Tehran to “proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same.”
“NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done” in the Iranian missile attack, Trump added.
“Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE. I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured,” the president wrote in a post on Truth Social.
In a second post on Truth Social, Trump thanked the Emir of Qatar for “all that he has done in seeking Peace for the Region.” In a third, the president wrote: “CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!”
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Iran has not violated anyone and would not accept any violations from others. “We will not surrender to anyone’s violation; this is the logic of the nation of Iran,” read a statement on his X account, which included an illustration of a burning American flag with several buildings behind it also on fire.
The comments mark Khamenei’s first statement on social media since the US struck Iran’s nuclear sites over the weekend.
Iran’s military on Monday said it carried out a missile attack on the Al Udeid US airbase in Qatar after explosions were heard across the Qatari capital following Tehran’s threat to retaliate for US airstrikes on its nuclear sites. Iran has launched a “powerful and destructive missile attack” on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar in response to the US striking its nuclear facilities, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement. “The Islamic Republic of Iran, relying on Almighty God and the faithful, proud people of Iran, will never leave any aggression against its territorial integrity, sovereignty, or national security unanswered,” the statement read.
Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar was attacked “by short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles originating from Iran,” a US defense official said Monday. Qatar’s defence minister told Al Jazeera its air defences had intercepted missiles directed at the Al Udeid air base, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East.
“At this time, there are no reports of US casualties,” the official said. “We are monitoring this situation closely and will provide more information as it becomes available.”
Majed al-Ansari, official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, writes on X: “We consider this a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations charter.” He says Qatar’s air defence systems “successfully thwarted the attack and intercepted the Iranian missiles” and the base had been evacuated earlier. He adds: “All necessary steps were taken to ensure the safety of personnel at the base, including Qatari Armed Forces members, friendly forces, and others.
“We confirm that no injuries or human casualties resulted from the attack.”
The spokesperson says Qatar reserves the right to respond “in a manner equivalent with the nature and scale of this brazen aggression”.
Also, Iran said it had fired missiles towards a US military base in Iraq, Iranian state media Tasnim reported.
Iran’s missile operation against American bases in Qatar and Iraq was code-named “O Abu Abdullah,” meaning “Blessings of victory.”
Iran will continue its retaliation in response to the United States’ attacks, a senior Iranian official tells Reuters. He says Iran has the necessary rationality to begin diplomacy after punishing the aggressor, adding if the US seeks negotiations, Israeli and US attacks must stop.
Kuwait has shut down its airspace starting Monday and until further notice, in light of regional developments, the Kuwaiti news agency Kuna reports. The suspension follows a closure of airspace by Qatar and Bahrain, as Iran attacked the Al Udeid US military base in Doha.
Bahrain says that it has shut down its airspace temporarily as a “precaution” after Iran attacked the Al Udeid US military base in Doha.
Bahrain is home to the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, whose area of responsibility includes the Gulf, the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean.
Multiple countries in the Middle East and North Africa condemned the Iranian attack on a US base in Qatar.
Egypt called the attack “a violation of (Qatar’s) sovereignty, a threat to its territorial integrity, and a breach of international law and the United Nations Charter,” according to a statement from the government Monday. The country said it “expresses its deep concern over the rapidly accelerating and dangerous escalation in the region, affirms its complete rejection of all forms of military escalation or infringement on the sovereignty of states, and calls for the necessity of de-escalation and a ceasefire to preserve regional peace and security.”
Saudi Arabia said the attack was a violation of the “principles of good neighborliness, and an entirely unacceptable act that cannot be justified under any circumstances.”
Jordan condemned what it called “aggression launched by Iran against the sisterly state of Qatar.”
Bahrain said it affirms its full support and solidarity with Qatar, “reflecting the close bonds of brotherhood and kinship between them.”
A spokesperson for Oman’s foreign ministry condemned the regional escalation, which they said was triggered by Israel and includes the recent Iranian attack.
The office of the Palestinian Authority President also called the attack a “a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the sisterly state of Qatar.”
EgyptAir on Monday announced the cancellation of all flights from Cairo to Gulf countries “until the situation in the region stabilizes.” “Due to the ongoing events in the region and the closure of airspace in several Gulf countries, EgyptAir flights from Cairo Airport to and from Gulf cities and vice versa have been cancelled until the situation in the region stabilizes,” EgyptAir said in a statement.
Aerial assaults raged between Iran and Israel early Monday, while Tehran vowed retaliation over the bunker-buster bombs American warplanes unleashed at the weekend on three nuclear sites.
US President Donald Trump insisted the attack had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities, but other officials said it was too soon to determine how significantly Tehran’s nuclear programme had been impacted.
As the world awaited Iran’s reply, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called the bombing campaign Israel launched on June 13 “a big mistake”.
“The Zionist enemy… is being punished right now,” Khamenei wrote on social media.
Sirens sounded across Israel and Iran early Monday as the arch enemies exchanged their latest round of fire.
The Israeli army said it was intercepting missiles from Iran, while Iranian state media Fars said the air defence system was working to counter a drone attack.
Donald Trump thinks Iranians should overthrow their government if it refuses to negotiate on its nuclear program, but the US president is “still interested” in diplomacy, the White House said Monday.
“If the Iranian regime refuses to come to a peaceful diplomatic solution, which the president is still interested and engaging in, by the way, why shouldn’t the Iranian people take away the power of this incredibly violent regime that has been suppressing them for decades?” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Fox News.
Loud explosions rocked Tehran on Monday as Israel said it struck “regime targets” in the city, escalating tensions a day after US air strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Iran, in turn, fired missile barrages at Israel and vowed retaliation against the United States, as both sides intensified attacks on the war’s 11th day.
An Iranian news agency said Israel struck Fordo — a key nuclear enrichment facility buried deep in the mountains south of Tehran. The previous day, the United States hit the site with “bunker buster” bombs in support of its ally Israel.
“The aggressor attacked the Fordo nuclear site again,” the Tasnim agency reported, quoting a provincial official.
President Donald Trump boasted Sunday’s US strikes had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities, but other officials said it was too soon to assess the impact on Iran’s nuclear programme, which Israel and some Western states consider an existential threat.
Aerial assaults meanwhile raged on, with sirens sounding across Israel and AFP journalists reporting blasts were heard over Jerusalem.
The Israeli military said it had struck missile sites in western Iran, “six Iranian regime airports” across the country, and unspecified “military targets” in the capital.
An AFP journalist in Tehran reported hearing loud explosions in the city’s north, and the Iranian Red Crescent said an Israeli strike hit near its building in the same area.
