Jaipur Anti-Encroachment Drive Turns Violent: 4 Cops Injured in Stone-Pelting Incident
Jaipur, Rajasthan: Four police officers were injured early Friday morning during an anti-encroachment drive outside a mosque in Chomu town, about 40 km from Jaipur, when a mob allegedly pelted stones at authorities, police reported.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. near the Chomu bus stand area as officials attempted to remove iron railings that had been installed on the road, obstructing traffic. Tensions escalated during the dismantling process, prompting police to use tear gas and mild force to disperse the crowd.

“The situation is completely under control. Four policemen sustained injuries due to stone pelting. Strict action will be taken against those taking the law into their own hands,” said Sanjay Agarwal, Director General of Police (Law and Order).
Usha Yadav, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Chomu, added that two to three other individuals also sustained minor injuries. She confirmed that senior police officers were on-site and additional personnel had been deployed to maintain law and order.
Authorities said that the administration had held discussions with the local community on Thursday evening regarding stones placed on the road outside the mosque. The community had agreed to remove them. However, following the removal, some individuals reportedly installed iron railings to mark the mosque boundary, which again encroached on the roadway.
When police arrived Friday morning with a JCB machine to remove the railings, stone-pelting ensued, resulting in injuries to four officers, who were later admitted to a hospital. Additional police forces were rushed in from surrounding stations to prevent further escalation.
As a precaution, internet services in Chomu have been suspended for 24 hours. Flag marches are being conducted throughout the town, and teams have been formed to identify and arrest those responsible for the violence.
