A loss-making horse-riding venue including an Olympic-sized arena in the East Lancashire countryside has been earmarked to become five detached new homes. Proposals have been submitted to knock down the Barden Lane Stables and Livery Yard in Barden Lane, Reedley, between Fence and Burnley. Take a first look at restoration work on Blakey Moor Terrace after boards covering the stretch have been taken down. Work on the new terrace has been ongoing for a number of years. Earlier this year, the footpath was back in use as scaffolding went up on the opposite side at King George’s Hall. Asda confirmed it had begun consultation with 72 staff based at the EG Group headquarters in Blackburn. The decision will affect staff working on the Asda Express operation at the head office at Waterside, off Haslingden Road. The company said it was looking to ‘support affected colleagues’ and ‘redeploy as many as possible to suitable vacancies in Asda’s head office in Leeds.’ Staff in Blackburn are set to be working until the end of July or the end of September, according to a worker who said the mood among affected staff was ‘rock bottom’. A man who was the first person in the UK to receive a groundbreaking gene-editing therapy on the NHS, said he felt ” privileged and lucky” and he hoped it would free him from a lifetime of blood transfusions. A British parachutist died when his wingsuit failed to get enough speed falling from an Italian mountain, an inquest has heard. Dylan Roberts, 32 and from Cumbria, was killed 20 seconds into a flight from a well-known base jumping cliff in the Alps in June 2022, his inquest was told. Concluding his death was a “tragic accident”, Cumbria Coroner Margaret Taylor said Mr Roberts was a highly experienced skydiving instructor who took safety extremely seriously.
